Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Pain Management Service at Barts Health. You will work in conjunction with the Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist, Clinical Nurse Specialists and Anaesthetic Consultants, to deliver inpatient and outpatient Pain Services at the Royal London and St Bartholomew's Hospitals. You will work within a team of highly experienced Specialist Nurses and Doctors in the delivery of high quality, evidence-based acute and chronic pain management services that our patients deserve.

The post holder will have the opportunity to further develop their specialist knowledge and skills in providing health care to selected patients referred to the inpatient Pain Management Service for specialist advice and management. This includes general surgery, orthopaedics, major trauma, complex hepatobiliary surgery, cardiothoracics, renal transplant and neurosurgery. In addition, there will be equal opportunity to develop specialist knowledge and skills in providing health care to patients referred for outpatient Pain Management and Peri-operative clinic including nurse-led clinics, and MDT clinics

You must be able to demonstrate effective communication, leadership and motivational skills, and be able to work in an extended multi-disciplinary team. Flexibility with working hours is necessary in order to meet the role and the service demands., Be responsible for contributing towards the day to day operational delivery of the Pain Management Service and take responsibility for an agreed nurse-led caseload maintaining a professional approach at all times. This includes implementing and evaluating pain management initiatives, facilitating the provision of a seamless service and promoting quality, evidence-based care to patients in accordance with local and Trust policies.

Develop and participate in audit, research and educational activities related to pain management to facilitate learning and to improve the clinical service we provide.

Have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills within the inpatient and outpatient Pain Management Service and be willing to develop your own skills through continuing professional development.

Ensure effective communication throughout the Trust to develop and build working relationships with other members of the multidisciplinary team to facilitate 'best practice' in the management of patients in acute and/or chronic pain.

Demonstrates time management and organisational skills to deliver a flexible service that responds appropriately to unpredictable and challenging needs.
