Full Job Description

The Trust has invested in professional leadership and improving standards of care by making clear the nursing and quality structure across the organisation. A part of this investment is the addition of a Clinical Nurse Specialist - Safer Staffing position within the Nursing and Quality Directorate with a focus on delivering the Trusts Safer Staffing agenda.

This role will be responsible, along with the Trust Safer Staffing Lead, for the oversight, application and improvement of Safer Staffing across all clinical services within South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience working in a trust with clear aspirations to provide outstanding care across geography and an enviable range of services.

The postholder will be expected to work autonomously as a credible independent practitioner making key decisions and to make clinical judgements involving highly complex facts or situations, which require the analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options.

Applicants must have the ability to build positive and effective professional relationships, work with a range of experienced leaders and be a credible nurse in practice.

There are very few organisations in the world that have such wide-ranging capabilities working with mental illness. Our scope is unique because it is built on three major foundations: care and treatment, science and research, and training.

SLaM employ around 5000 staff and serve a local population of 1.1 million people. We have more than 230 services including inpatient wards, outpatient and community services. Currently, provide inpatient care for approximately 5,300 people each year and treat more than 45,000 patients in the community in Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark; as well as substance misuse services for residents of Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich.

To be responsible, along with the Trust Safer Staffing Lead, for the oversight, application and improvement of Safer Staffing across all clinical services within South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

To monitor and support Trust compliance with the National Quality Board: Developing Workforce Safeguards (2018) and other national workforce plans and agendas.

To provide specialist Safer Staffing training, advice and leadership to support staff in the delivery of Safer Staffing in accordance with Trust Safer Staffing policies.

Promote strong leadership and strengthen the Safer Staffing contribution to the quality and safety agenda in the Trust.

The post holder will be required to operate flexibly within the Safer Staffing team structure to ensure that a comprehensive service is provided, and when necessary to act up and deputise for the Safer Staffing Lead.
