Full Job Description

We offer a rare opportunity for a Psychologist to contribute to the Regional Major Trauma Rehabilitation Service (MTRS) on the Royal Victoria Infirmary site.

The MTRS operates through a rehabilitation hub arrangement to provide multi-disciplinary, coordinated, specialist assessment, acute trauma rehabilitation and community patient/family information and signposting which is based on the goals identified by the patient and their carers. The service aims to address their comprehensive needs for functional and emotional support, information and advice, practical help with vocational issues, housing, benefits and care support needs.

The MTRS offers outreach advice, support, and review in some circumstances, to local hospitals and community services across the patient pathway to optimise repatriation and hospital discharge. The MTRS contributes to appropriate interim reviews i.e. weekly, 6 weekly, 6 monthly and annual review processes for all patients known to the specialist rehab team. There may be an occasional requirement for patients and families to access Psychology out of hours., The successful applicant will join another clinical psychologist in providing cover across the week for adult patients of the regional major trauma rehabilitation service. This will involve both inpatient and outpatient psychological support and therapeutic input direct to patients and their families. The successful candidate will also be an active member of the MDT, contributing to MDT meetings and discussions, regularly participating in joint clinics and offering staff support sessions. Trauma therapy will be an important part of the role and there is provision to support further training of the successful applicant in therapies relevant to the role, such as EMDR.

Our staff oversee over 6,500 patient contacts every day, delivering high standards of healthcare from the following sites

o Health Innovation Neighbourhood (on the former Newcastle General Hospital and Centre for Ageing and Vitality site)

o Newcastle Dental Hospital

o Newcastle Fertility Centre

o Northern Centre for Cancer Care, North Cumbria

o Northern Genetics Service

o Cramlington Manor Walks

These include a range of flagship services which deliver cutting-edge care (supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic services in both radiology and pathology) and are a catalyst for innovation to support pioneering clinical practice in the NHS.

We also have offices at Regent Point in Gosforth and community sites.
