Full Job Description

We are seeking a confident Clinical Psychologist (long term health conditions - Sussex) to join our expanding paediatric team within University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (UHSussex) to support children with a range of long term health conditions. This post will support children from East and West Sussex who are receiving medical care and attending clinics at the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital in Brighton and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. The post holder will liaise closely with multidisciplinary health care teams of paediatricians, specialist nurses and allied health professionals and will provide psychological assessments and treatments to those experiencing behavioural, emotional and psychological challenges linked to their health condition and / or their treatment regimen with the aim of improving treatment outcomes and the patient experience. They will provide bespoke individualised support to children and families and develop
group interventions to meet service needs.
We are passionate about improving the quality of services we provide and are looking forward to welcoming a psychologist with drive and enthusiasm onto the team. Support and supervision for this post will be offered by our Consultant Clinical Psychologist. We welcome enquiries from experienced Paediatric Psychologists, CAMHS Psychologists interested in moving into the specialty and from newly or recently qualified psychologists who may be interested in a preceptorship role., To develop and deliver psychological support and a range of evidence based psychological treatments to children and young people with long term health conditions under the care of the RACH Paediatric Department in line with service requirements. This involves the development, refinement and provision of highly specialist psychological assessments and treatments of children and young people experiencing behavioural, emotional and psychological challenges linked to their long term health conditions and / or their treatment regimen.
To evaluate the efficacy, efficiency and acceptability of the assessments and treatments offered to children with long term health conditions., + Provide highly specialist psychological assessment and intervention to children and young people with long term health conditions on an individual and, when appropriate, group basis.
+ Work in collaboration with paediatric colleagues to assess and meet the treatment needs of children and young person with long term health conditions within a multidisciplinary model of care.
+ Offer advice and consultation on the psychological challenges experienced by children with long term health conditions to other professionals within the Paediatric Department and the wider health care network.
+ Contribute to team decisions about treatment options considering highly complex biopsychosocial factors which impact the children / young people with long term health conditions and their families.
+ Facilitate understanding across teams about the nature of the psychological challenges faced by children and young people with physical health problems and long term health conditions through teaching, training and supervision.
+ Offer consultation to other professionals to improve the quality of care delivered to children and young people with physical health problems and long term health conditions.
+ Provide education, training and supervision to psychologists and other professionals to enhance skills and expertise in the area of long term health conditions in accordance with the demands of the service.
+ Contribute to the development of the paediatric and paediatric psychology operational policies and services with regards the holistic biopsychosocial model of treatment practiced.
+ Work as an autonomous professional, within, and guided by, the principles, policies and procedures of the service. To work autonomously within codes of conduct and professional guidelines (of The British Psychological Society - BPS and The Health and Care Professionals Council - HCPC).
