Full Job Description

The Division of Cardiovascular Science within the Faculty of Health, Biology and Medicine wish to appoint a Clinical Research Fellow to an exciting project exploring the relationship between mavacamten bioavailability and effectiveness in patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. Manchester Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has a large HCM service and runs a dedicated mavacamten clinic for patients with obstructive symptoms. Mavacamten is metabolised by the cytochrome P450 system and - depending on the allelic status of an individual - may be more slowly or more rapidly metabolised. The purpose of this project will be to look at how genotype status predicts phenotypic response to the drug. During this position, the post-holder will undertake a range of activities including :

  • creation of a mavacamten registry for Manchester and the surrounding areas
  • regular participation in both new and follow up patient clinics for those on mavacamten
  • involvement in cardiac imaging (MRI or PET according to interest) for roughly 1 session per week.
  • analysis of MRI images after training
  • supervision of stress MRI in HCM patients (after training)
  • writing and supporting ethics applications
  • providing support to other fellows research activities as occasionally required
  • The position is fully-funded for upto 36 months and the appointee will be expected to register for either an MD or PhD at the University of Manchester. Depending upon the aptitude of the individual it may also be possible to obtain level 3 accreditation in CMR after 3 years.

What you will get in return :
  • Fantastic market leading Pension scheme
  • Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays
  • Additional paid closure over the Christmas period
  • Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers
