Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered midwife to work in both a clinical and clinical research role within Jessop Wing. This position will enable the post holder to undertake a hybrid role incorporating both clinical care and research within Jessop Wing.
The post holder will work under the supervision of Senior Midwifery Team and the Trust Research Matron as part of a team managing and coordinating clinical and research projects within Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology (OG&N) and delivering personalised clinical care in all care settings to provide the highest standards of midwifery care to meet the needs of women and their families.
The post holder will be responsible for developing and sustaining their own knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness in accordance with the NMC Code., The post holder will be confident and competent in working autonomously with comprehensive clinical skills and the ability to support the senior midwife in taking charge of the ward/team regularly.
As part of the research team the Midwife will manage and coordinate the Generation Study within Obstetrics as project lead. As project lead for the Generation Study the Research Midwife will maximise recruitment into the study by developing and coordinating recruitment strategies, monitoring rates of recruitment and ensuring that all aspects of the study are completed in line with research safeguards that are in place to protect the well-being of research participants and that research is conducted within ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines and in compliance to the respective research protocol and UK/EU law. In addition, the project lead will also support the wider Jessop Wing to assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care for patients in line with research and clinical protocols. The Research Midwife will work as part of the wider research team to develop and deliver recruitment targets, and strategies.

The Academic Directorate of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology (OG&N) is a research active Directorate with a large and growing portfolio of studies, a number of which are part of the NIHR portfolio.
The OG&N Research Team has successfully affiliated with the Sheffield NIHR Clinical Research Facility (CRF), the purpose of which is to grow and support research which is pertinent to the local population, taking part in research on the NIHR portfolio as well as supporting home grown grant bids., This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 18 months due to the post being externally funded. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the ongoing source of the external funding and the requirement for the post to be maintained.
