Full Job Description
This is a senior post responsible for leading a progressive clinical trials unit within the Oxford Eye Hospital (ERGO), coordinating the infrastructure and resources that meet the requirements to deliver a high-quality service ensuring all clinical trials and studies are conducted in accordance with the International Conference on Harmonisation and Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP). The Clinical Research Nurse Manager is responsible for overseeing the administration, finances and budget of the Clinical trials Unit which is integral to every study set up.
The main objective of the Clinical Research Nurse Manager is clinical leadership and the day-to-day coordination of the execution of a portfolio of studies, not only Ophthalmology but in collaboration with other specialities where monitoring of eye health is required.
The post-holder will take a leadership and performance management role in supporting and directing the activities and development of the ERGO MDT
Through supervision of the clinical research teams, they will ensure that all studies are conducted in compliance with research legislation and protocols and that recruitment targets are met on time.
The Post holder will be required to coordinate selected studies and also to deputise for study coordinators as necessary.

Holding line management responsibility for the multidisciplinary team enabling them to provide day to day management of the Clinical Trials Unit.
Coordinate the multidisciplinary team (nurses, study doctors, optometrists, photographers, administrators, coordinators, research practitioners and research assistants) in delivering the clinical trial service. This includes ensuring that there is adequate clinical cover for all research activity.
Advise on study feasibility with respect to local clinical services and prescribing practices.
Advise on contractual and costing matters in relation to study set up Monitor research income to ensure a quality and cost-effective clinical trials service is delivered within budget and benchmark costings against national and research finance data.
Ensure with The Ophthalmic lead and The Business Manager that incoming and outgoing finance meets all pay and non-pay expenditure. Making sure the balance sheet is healthy.
Analyse ERGO's capacity and capability through NIHR Study Intensity Tools for new studies to make sure we can accommodate them.
Maintain the continuity of ERGO's activities and income while coordinating with the Finance Manager. Act as expert practitioner in all areas of day-to-day research practice, providing advice and practical support over the full range of operational issues to all members of the multidisciplinary team.
Contribute to the development, review and revision of clinical and research policies/procedures/SOPs.
The recruitment, selection and induction of new research staff to ERGO. Provide appraisals and clinical supervision for the Research Nurses. Facilitate the conduct of appraisals and supervision of the research MDT staff.
Support the Lead Research Consultant for Ophthalmology in the development of social media and technology for ERGO.
Be an advocate of ERGO staff's wellbeing and have regular check-ins with the team, delegating when appropriate to the Wellbeing Champions or Deputies.
Assist ERGO Research Nurses in their revalidation and be available for confirmation and possible audits.
Liaise with trial Sponsors, Finance and Contracts Teams to ensure a fair remuneration for our activities.
