Full Job Description

· To be responsible for the organisation and day to day running of allocated clinical trials at Ashford & St Peters NHS Hospital Trust.
· Support and assist with the research activities and clinical trials within the designated area/speciality.
· Provide a high quality service and care for all those involved in research activities, external organisations and institutes, staff and patients.
Be a resource within the Trust regarding advice and information on the clinical trials., Co-ordinating and setting up in-patient and outpatient clinical research studies:
+ Assist with the submissions of studies to the required review bodies. Responding to correspondence to obtain approval, and reporting all changes and unanticipated problems involving patient care
+ Assembling, completing and maintaining the required regulatory documentation
+ Ensure that the study is conducted adhering to the International Conference for Harmonisation (ICH) and Good Clinical Practise (GCP) guidelines, UK Clinical Trials Regulations and in accordance with its protocol
+ Attend Investigator meetings and set up meetings
+ Identify and screen for potential research participants
+ Be able to advise and support patients and their families when considering participation in a study
+ Teach, advise and support medical and nursing staff about the studies so that they can identify, recruit, administer study drugs and care for study patients according to the specific protocol requirements
+ Ensure availability of clear and easy to follow study guidelines, so that staff workload is kept to a minimum, + Working autonomously
+ Operate independently without supervision
+ Manage own time and workload
+ Plan, deliver and evaluate patient-centred care
+ Measure and record treatment outcomes
+ Request and interpret results of various tests
+ Make independent professional decisions and be accountable for them
+ Manage patient clinics within a studies requirement
+ Inform study patients GPs of their participation in a clinical trial, liaising with the GP as necessary
Study Recruitment and Follow-up Phase
+ Conduct careful assessment of patients ensuring that all inclusion and exclusion criteria are met.
+ Be available to advise on patients being screened for study enrolment, both acute in-patient and long-term out-patients studies
+ Assist and, when appropriate, be responsible for consent and randomisation procedures
+ Maintain good communications with all staff so that they are fully supported in their study role
+ To provide on-going support and encouragement to all research participants throughout their involvement in the study
+ Take blood/urine samples as required by the study protocol
+ Centrifuge blood samples as required, separating the whole cells from the serum or plasma where requested. Storing samples at the correct temperature and ship samples to central laboratories as required by study protocol.
+ Complete case report forms, ensuring that all source documents are accurately maintained
+ Assist Clinical Research Monitors with data verification and queries
+ Ensure that follow up visits for participants are conducted according to study requirements
+ To monitor for and send expedited severe adverse event forms, where necessary
+ To liaise closely with Research Divisional Lead / Research Speciality Lead

+ To be conversant with information technology in use within the Trust and as required by the studies
+ Provide out of hours advice and assistance in relation to on-going research patient care
+ Develop and maintain appropriate clinical competences
+ To promote and maintain good working relationships with all departments within the trust
+ Support staff within the department, advising and liaising as required
+ To work at both Ashford Hospital and St Peter's Hospital
+ To maintain professional links with other departments within the Trust
+ Assist with Study days and other teaching events
Education, Research and Development
+ To maintain own personal and professional development
+ Act as a resource for others and keep up to date with developments in research
+ Assist with the organisation of study days and give teaching sessions
+ Involvement in the dissemination process following completion of a research study
To support the department and organisation by carrying out any other duties that reasonably fit within the broad scope of a job of this grade and type of work.
