We have a vacancy for an enthusiastic and highly motivated HCPC registered Clinical Scientist in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I) to join our team.

We are happy to consider applications from individuals who are training in H&I and are expected to obtain HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist in the next 12 months. In this situation, payment would be as a band 6 Trainee Clinical Scientist until registration is achieved.

A relocation expense package of up to £10,000 is available.

This rewarding role will allow you to work in rotation across the different laboratory areas, applying your highly specialised scientific knowledge and skills in the work of laboratory and providing clinical advice in support of transplantation and transfusion services.

The Welsh Transplant laboratory is based within the headquarters of the Welsh Blood Service in Talbot Green, near Cardiff, and provides a specialised service to support renal, pancreas and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, platelet immunology, and disease association testing., As a HCPC registered Clinical Scientist in H&I, you will be required to perform, analyse, interpret, validate and report the results of highly complex scientific laboratory tests and investigations relating to specialist histocompatibility and immunogenetics services. You will apply highly specialised scientific knowledge and skills to provide clinical advice in support of transplantation services.

Perform, analyse, interpret and report a broad range of tests to provide a comprehensive H&I Service.

Apply highly specialist scientific skills and expertise including troubleshooting of assays and techniques both existing and in development.

Apply professional judgement and knowledge to provide clinical advice in line with agreed policies to internal and external clinicians, healthcare colleagues and scientific staff.

Support the Department Head in the technical and scientific work of the laboratory to ensure effective, efficient and safe delivery of high-quality services including the achievement of key performance targets.

Perform research, service development/improvement in line with the strategic priorities of the Department.

As a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Clinical Scientist operate within local and national procedures and professional polices or guidelines.

Organise own workload and work unsupervised in accordance with the sections needs.

Participate in a 24/7 on-call rota in support of solid organ transplantation.
