Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Occupational Therapist to help lead the Medicine and Surgery Occupational Therapy Team at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. We are looking for an enthusiastic OT with operational and clinical leadership qualities, effective communication skills, a flexible approach and an ability to work under pressure. This post will enable you to develop and utilise your specialist clinical skills within the specialty of Medicine and Surgery and to support the upskilling of junior staff. You will carry a clinical caseload, providing clinical leadership and promoting a strong profile for Occupational Therapy within the service and wider Multi-Disciplinary Team. The Medical/Surgical Occupational Therapy Team at the Princess Royal hospital is well established and known for being friendly and welcoming. Although you will have responsibility (alongside current part-time team lead) for all aspects of your clinical service/area , you will work closely with the Therapies Site Lead, Operational Lead OT, and other band 7 colleagues to lead on quality, safety, education and innovation. We are committed to continuing professional and personal development, and provide regular student placements., The Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist for Medicine and Surgery - Team Lead is responsible for working closely with the Head of Occupational Therapy, Occupational Therapy Operational Lead, other Occupational Therapy Team Leads and relevant clinical colleagues / managers to ensure:

  • the provision of leadership, supervision; professional consultation, guidance and advice to the Medicine and Surgery Occupational Therapy Team
  • the planning, delivery, evaluation and review of an effective Occupational Therapy service by the Team to Medical and Surgical patients at the Princess Royal Hospital
  • the professional representation of Occupational Therapy in the planning, development and evaluation of clinical services within our acute medicine service, holding responsibility for defined projects in agreement with the Head of Occupational Therapy, Therapies Site Lead and Professional Lead
  • the management of a caseload of clients with complex needs, using evidence-based and client-centred principles to assess, plan implement and evaluate interventions
  • the professional representation of the Occupational Therapy Service as a whole, to include deputising for the Occupational Therapy Operational Lead in liaison with other Team Leads in their absence
