Full Job Description

Identifies the Occupational therapy role and develops a service within a Specialist Multi-disciplinary team for patients with conditions associated with frailty at Milford Hospital. To use highly specialist Occupational Therapy knowledge and skills to manage a complex caseload of patients, with regard to the physical, emotional, social, spiritual and psychosocial aspects of their care. The post holder will act as an autonomous practitioner and as a source of expertise in the OT assessment, treatment and management of this client group; providing advice to patients, carers, other health and social care professionals, consultants, GPs and fellow OTs. The post holder will incorporate national guidance, and the use of evidence based research into their practice and that of the service., · The post holder will be responsible for providing specialist knowledge to the Occupational Therapy team at Milford Hospital, ensuring the continuing development of the service reporting progress for clinical governance and audit purposes
· The post holder will work within the MDT to assist in the planning of complex discharges.
· The post holder is responsible for the supervision and management of Junior and senior Occupational Therapy staff.
· The post holder will work with wider services including the acute orthopaedic team to develop new pathways and ways of working to enhance the patient experience., Part time 30 hours per week (0.8wte) ten month fixed term contract
The Royal Surrey County Hospital are looking for a Band 7 Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the therapy team on the in-patient wards at Milford Hospital for a fixed term contract. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Occupational Therapist to provide highly specialist support to the Occupational Therapy team within this sub-acute setting.
You will be joining a dynamic, experienced and friendly team that include physiotherapists, nurses, doctors and support workers. We provide rehabilitation to sub-acute ortho-geriatric and frailty patients.
In this role you will be expected to perform to a high clinical standard and to support a team of registered Occupational Therapists and unregistered staff, and Occupational Therapy students on placement, as well as leading our service development. You will work closely with the Physiotherapy team lead and both the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy clinical specialists in the setting.
There will be opportunities to work closely with our local community services as the Trust welcomed these services, alongside Pro-Care, in April 2018.
Our services cover 7 days per week and the post holder may be expected to work regular weekends and bank holidays. Use of own car for business use is essential.
As a department we are a friendly bunch of therapists who all work together to provide a dynamic and pro-active service to our patients. We have a range of experience and specialisms ranging from Occupational Therapy assistants to Advanced Clinical Specialists providing clinical support, and formal and informal training, and the department benefits from being managed by an Occupational Therapist who provides a strong professional lead.
We have a strong commitment to clinical supervision and Continuing Professional Development; you will be regularly supervised by a senior therapist and attend the Occupational Therapy peer support groups. You will be supported to engage in service development and encouraged to put forward suggestions as to how we can enhance and grow the services we offer. We have a well-structured In-Service Training Programme which the successful applicant will be able to learn from as well as the opportunity to lead sessions with support from your team.
