An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Clinical Support Worker within the Acute Medical UnitWe are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who is keen to work within the acute setting and be a support to both the Clinical Support Workers team and the Nursing team alike., You will have the opportunity to develop your clinical skills and receive structured appraisal, support, mentorship and training. The main role of the Clinical Support Worker will include providing fundamental nursing care to our inpatients with all activities of daily living, to act in emergency situations and to support the registered nursing staff to deliver a high standard of care to all our patients. As a Clinical Support Worker you will:

  • Direct patient care- this includes all activities
  • Work in support of and under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), providing nursing care and assistance to patients within defined parameters specified by the Registered Nurse.
  • Perform clinical skills ie. observations, recording blood sugars, ECG etc.
  • Record patient information.
  • Provide basic patient care and document that care in the patient records.
  • Helping to ensure the unit is clean, safe, tidy and a comfortable environment.
  • Work effectively with the multidisciplinary team in order to achieve desired outcomes that promote the well being of patients.
  • Assist the RN's in the delivery of care to a designated patient group, demonstrating an ability to prioritise such care.
  • Assist in the implementation of direct clinical care.
  • Determine the comfort of patients by talking and listening to them and building up a rapport.
  • Assist in feeding of patients who are unable to do so themselves and complete food charts where necessary.

    We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
  • FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay. Our community services for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
