Full Job Description

Our JAG accredited Endoscopy Unit at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our friendly team as a clinical support worker. You will work in support of, and under the direction of a registered nurse on our busy unit. Your role will be to assist in the care of patients attending the unit for a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures. You will also be responsible for the transportation of endoscopes, both clean and dirty, over to the sterile services department for decontamination. We are a small, friendly enthusiastic team committed to excellent patient care and teamwork. As a unit we are very receptive to change and we are continuously looking for ways to develop our unit and practice to enhance the service we offer.,

  • Work in support of and under the direction of a registered nurse,providing nursing care and assistance to patients within definedparameters specified by the registered nurse (RN).
  • Provide basic patient care and document that care in the electronic patient records.
  • Transport endoscopes, both clean and dirty over to the sterile service department throughout the day.
  • Return damaged and broken scopes to repair and receive them back following the correct protocol.
  • General house keeping duties.
  • Effective working with the multidisciplinary team in order to achieve desired outcomes that promote the well being of patients and efficient running of the service.
  • Be able to plan and prioritise endoscopes required for the service lists for the day.
  • Work within the recovery area under the direction of the registered nurse to provide patient care post procedure.

    We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.
  • FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay. Our community services for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
