Full Job Description

The Morecambe Bay Respiratory Network in conjunction with the Community Respiratory Service, have secured funding until April 2026, to trial a number of new services across Morecambe Bay, including (but not limited to) integrated MDT clinical pathways for chronic respiratory disease management, additional localised pulmonary rehabilitation programs, and specialist home rehabilitation and support, for people with respiratory disease living with high symptom burden who are at high risk of deterioration and urgent care use., Working alongside a team of Physiotherapists, OTs, Nurses and administrators, as part of the Community Respiratory Service, you will assist in the delivery of 4 rolling programmes of Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR).
Specifically, you will assist the registered staff with the planning, organising and delivery of PR assessments, groups and final assessments.
This will involve:
+ Phoning patients to support their journey through PR
+ Supporting patients to complete health questionnaires
+ Taking basic clinical observations as part of fitness testing
+ Conducting (under the supervision of a Physiotherapist) fitness testing (walk tests, strength tests, functional assessments) as part of the PR initial and final assessments
+ Working in a compassionate, respectful and professional manner with patients, their relatives and cares and staff, role modelling our Trust values and behaviours.
+ Cleaning of equipment and complying with health and safety processes to ensure safe delivery of PR for our patients
+ Writing up clinical notes using EMIS web clinical records system
+ Entering clinical data into our Audit spreadsheet
+ Moving and handling of PR equipment
+ Some general clinical administration tasks as needed (e.g. collating patient education materials)
+ Supporting the staffing cover and delivery of PR exercise classes as needed

UHMBT Integrated Community Service provides care outside of the hospital setting, including community locations and people's own homes.
UHMBT hospital services operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

This role offers you a permanent contract with our Trust (UHMBT), and a role aligned with the Community Respiratory Service until 31st March 2026. Further funding for us to continue these Respiratory services beyond April 2026, will be dependent on the success of this trial period.
