Full Job Description
As a clinical support worker, you will work together with a registered nurse to provide nursing care for an allocated group of patients. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and dedicated person who is committed to delivering a high quality of individualised patient centred care in a caring and compassionate manner. The successful candidate may undertake any or all of the following clinical or therapeutic activities:
- taking blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, oxygen saturation, level of alertness and completion of NEWS
- blood glucose
- observing patients for signs of agitation or distress
- wound observations, simple wound dressings
- venepuncture
- removal of peripheral cannula
- urinalysis, removal of catheter
- weight and height
- record patient observations
- other tests if competent. Post holders will be appointed at band 2 or band 3 depending upon qualifications. Band 2 requirements - willingness to undertake all relevant training and qualifications if wishing to develop into a band 3 role. Band 3 requirements - + Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or GCSE equivalent (A-C/ 4-9) + Care certificate + Level 3 vocational qualification or Short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties and/or Equivalent knowledge and experience in a range of clinical care duties equivalent to Level 3; - Theoretical knowledge - Experience of a range of care and related procedures - clinical observations - knowledge of relevant legislation
There is a clear framework to allow for postholders to develop from a band 2 to band 3 and this includes completion of the qualifications. The post holder will work 11.5 hour shifts which will include work at weekends and nights. Romanby ward is a medical ward which cares for patients with varied needs ranging from acute illness management, chronic disease management, palliative care and the complexities of discharge processes.
