Full Job Description

The Teaching Fellow will undertake a combination of teaching, non-teaching and paediatric clinics. Teaching clinics will have a reduced number of patients to allow suitable time for teaching of medical students as expected as the Teaching Fellow. They will usually have on average 3 theatre sessions per week which will be spread between adult daycase theatres, adult main theatres and paediatric theatres based on a 4 weekly timetable. These theatre sessions will usually be a supervised session led by one of the Consultants as shown below. The timetable will vary depending on whether it is term or non-term time and on the availability of the relevant Consultant. This timetable will be subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the service and will be dependant on Consultant leave., The University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is a university hospital with an onsite Graduate Entry Medical School (GEM). This is a well-established sister-school to the University of Nottingham Undergraduate entry school based in Nottingham itself. Medical students are attached to ENT for two - week blocks in groups or 6-8 students and are taught in-house, in the ENT clinics and Theatres and with dedicated tutorial sessions. Some key duties are

  • Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in a EN.
  • Teaching responsibility for Clinical Phase 2 ENT University of Nottingham Medical Students attending Royal Derby Hospital for their clinical attachment.
  • Active participation in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
  • Responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).
