Full Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Caterpillar Shrewsbury for a permanent CNC Machinist, reporting to the Machining & Salvage department Team Leader. There are a variety of duties encompassed in this exciting role including milling, turning and grinding as well as vertical and horizontal boring. You must be confident in reading and working from engineering drawings, using measuring equipment, including, Vernier calipers and micrometers. Understand the importance of quality products and fine tolerances. The role will provide key support in our drive to develop salvage capabilities and technology generating cost saving benefits. What You Will Do:
- Conform to all Health, Safety and Environmental Procedures.
- Operate, set and programme CNC machines
- Set CNC machine tools, including Re-tip and DTI checking
- Operate manual Lathes and Milling machines.
- Change, Balance and Test Grinding Wheels, Training will be Given.
- Inspect own work including visual of 1st off inspection
- Use of measuring equipment; Micrometres / Vernier callipers.
- Backing up of CNC programmes.
- Responsible for training new operators.
- Working with other areas to develop improvements and savings.
- Carrying out operator performed maintenance and 5S activity as required.
Previous experience in CNC operations and programming. - Ability to read technical drawings and develop concepts from discussion.
- Development of tooling.
- Assist with purchasing machine tools, tool design and fixtures.
- Assist with service engineers for machines.
- Problem solving to introduce new product.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills
- Ability to prioritise workload to meet changing needs within the team

- Ability to contribute to cost effective solutions and savings.

- Supporting CNC qualifications would be advantageous.
- Machining Apprenticeship.
- Large Component Grinding Experience.
