Full Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team as the Colorectal Pelvic Health and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Fellow. The ideal candidate will be a passionate and dedicated colorectal registrar with an interest in the management of functional colorectal disease. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop skills in diagnostics (lower GI physiology / endoscopy), conservative (biofeedback, neuromodulation) and surgical management of patients with pelvic floor and/or IBD.

Working within one of the leading surgical departments in the country, the post-holder will work with senior consultant colleagues across colorectal surgery, gastroenterology, neurologicalurology and urogynaecology to deliver joined-up, world-class care for our patients with pelvic floor disorders and inflammatory bowel disease as part of our flagship Neurological Pelvic Organ Physiology (NPOP) team.

The successful candidate must be eligible for registration or hold full registration with the GMC and have registrar level experience in colorectal surgery. In addition to elective duties, they will participate in a 1:8 on-call registrar rota in general surgery. They must have the ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities, surgical waiting lists, operating lists and rotas as well as demonstrate strong communication and team working skills.

The post holder is intended to work at a Senior Registrar level, supporting and aiding the NPOP multidisciplinary team, clinical ward work, the Outpatient workload and Elective and Emergency operating of the Department. A pay banding supplement is payable for participation in the on-call rota at middle grade level.

The successful candidate for the position of Pelvic Health and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Fellow will work at a senior registrar level, playing a pivotal role in providing expertise in the inpatient and outpatient management of pelvic floor and IBD patients. This dynamic role involves close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, fostering effective communication and synergy among various medical disciplines.

Additionally, the candidate will be encouraged to develop proficiency in lower gastrointestinal physiology testing and further enhance existing skills in both open and laparoscopic colorectal surgery, and proctology.

Acting as a liaison between the colorectal, gastroenterology, neurological urology, and gynaecology teams, the successful candidate will contribute to the seamless integration of care, ensuring comprehensive and patient-centred approaches to treatment.

Inpatient patient care: Responsible for overseeing and co-ordinating the comprehensive inpatient care of patients with colorectal conditions, ensuring optimal medical management and patient outcomes.

Organisation and support of the NPOP and IBD MDT: Facilitate organisation, active participation, and effective communication in the NPOP and IBD multidisciplinary meetings.

Participation and organisation of theatre sessions: Actively participate in and organise colorectal operating sessions ensuring efficient and coordinated delivery of surgical care and optimal patient outcomes.

Specialist clinics: Participation in the multidisciplinary NPOP clinic and the general. IBD colorectal clinic providing care for patients in the outpatient setting with complex IBD and functional colorectal disorders.

Joint ward rounds: Collaborate with the IBD / nutrition team in conducting joint ward rounds for patients with IBD, intestinal failure and continence dysfunction, addressing the comprehensive needs of individuals by integrating nutritional considerations into the overall management plan.

Triaging of referrals: Ensuring patients referred to the service are triaged to the appropriate specialist in a timely and efficient manner to ensure best outcome.Assisting in the delivery of quality improvement, audit, research and teaching: Contributing to the ongoing initiatives, research endeavours and educational activities within and outside of the department.

You will be part of a 1 in 8 on call rota.
