Full Job Description

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wish to appoint a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon with a special interest in Benign Colorectal Surgery (pelvic floor, abdominal wall hernia or ambulatory benign colorectal surgery). You will be part of General Surgery on-call rota at Aintree site. We are looking for a keen, dynamic Consultant willing to integrate with existing teams of 10 colorectal surgeons to deliver a first-class service. It is a full-time post consisting of 10 PAs, of which 1.5 are dedicated SPA time. The job plan and SPA entitlement will be formally reviewed after 6 months and adjusted as necessary.The new appointee expected to have main elective and emergency work at Aintree site but also have elective theatre for high-risk benign colorectal cases and cross-over theatres on Royal site. On call duties are described in detail further on., Applications are invited for suitably qualified individuals for a Consultant Colorectal/ General Surgeon with an interest in IBD in the General Surgery Care Group, Department of Colorectal Surgery currently with regular clinical duties on 2 sites of the Trust Royal Liverpool Hospital (RLH) and Aintree Hospitals (AUH).

This is being advertised as a full-time post but all applications will be considered on merit, including those hoping to work less than full time.

The position comes with full secretarial support, a dedicated office in our current building, and equitable support from the junior doctors and AHPs who form part of the wider colorectal team.We currently have 11 colorectal consultants, 6 ST places, 3 CST, 3 FY2 and 10 FY1 in colorectal, as well as 2 surgical assistants, a ward ANP and a team of 7 Colorectal Cancer Nurse Specialists. There are RCS approved colorectal fellow and a North of England laparoscopic fellow (NLF) in the department. There is also a dedicated full-time surgical IBD nurse looking after IBD and specially pouch patients.

There will be a rota for 7 day dedicated colorectal consultant cover to look after the inpatients to avoid problems associated with multi-site working .

This post is a replacement post to match the increase in demand in IBD work within the current Colorectal Unit.

The Trust is committed to innovative and technical developments within surgery, and this is demonstrated within the services we deliver. Applicants must have full GMC registration, entry on the Specialist Register for General Surgery via CCT or CESR (CP) or European Community Rights- proposed CCT/CESR(CP) date must be within 6 months of interview. They should be able to provide evidence of high standards achieved in technical operating, especially in benign colorectal surgery. If successful, you will be joining a well-established unit and will be expected to participate in the development of our future services.
