Full Job Description

The successful candidate should be part of the plan to help develop the whole individual in accordance with the mission and values of BCT/BCIS namely: Respect, Resilience, Independence, Kindness and Integrity. -As an independent school, BCIS does not require the science curriculum to follow the national curriculum nor undertake qualifications in the subject matter. It must meet the standards of the Education Act 2002 to include experience in science, appropriate to the ages and aptitudes of the pupils including those with special needs. -This should be done in an innovative, engaging way with lessons being practical and fun and learning driven by questions like, 'why is it easy for me to melt ice but not diamond' and the full exploration of the processes (physics, biology and chemistry) involved in listening to a favourite song from speaker vibration to brain and body reactions. Sessions should also aim to include elements of Personal and Social Development where possible. -The course must be captured in a scheme of work, timetable, lesson plans, worksheets and targeted activities. -Main areas will include: course intent and delivery, Individual Learning Plans, lesson observations, learner feedback, guest speaker and trips, assisted learning support for high needs learners, registers and reward scheme, liaison with parents and carers, e-safety, assessment, equality, health and safety and safeguarding

Maths and English GCSE Grade 4/C or equivalent (Level 2) -Degree/relevant qualification in the subject area (i.e. Science A-Levels) Essential Qualities: -Strong communication and empathy to work with vulnerable learners effectively -Proficiency in all areas of science -Prior teaching experience within subject areas -In-depth knowledge of science curriculum for Key Stage 4 -Classroom management skills for handling vulnerable students -Patience, understanding, and the ability to build trust with learners Desirable Skills: - Prior teaching experience within subject areas with client group - Creativity to adapt lessons to engage and support vulnerable learners - Knowledge of special education techniques and strategies - Ability to create a safe and inclusive learning environment - Understanding of assessment and evaluation methods tailored to Key Stage 4 - Technological proficiency for online teaching if necessary - Experience or training in counselling or mentorship to address emotional needs,

    3.5 hours across 0.5 days a week for 52 weeks per year
  • -Pro rata of 35 days of annual leave plus UK bank holidays -This is a fixed-term part-time position covering maternity leave for the current science teacher until Oct 2025 -Pro rata of qualified teacher annual salary FTE £33,000 - £42,000 (actual salary £3,300 - £4,200) depending on experience -Pro rata of unqualified teacher annual salary FTE £28,000 (actual salary £2,800) -Start Date ASAP, We welcome industry professionals who wish to enter teaching, via the fully funded Taking Teaching Further scheme's qualification. This is 6 months of reduced timetable for training whilst receiving full pay and lesson cover.
