If so, we are looking for an experienced Lawyer to join our Legal team on a fixed-term contract as a Commercial Lawyer. Your key purpose in this role is to act as a commercially pragmatic and proactive legal advisor to our Fleet or IT business areas to support the General Counsel in ensuring that legal support to all strategic and business objectives is delivered and, legal risks are monitored and controlled,

  • Development and accountability for legal service and delivery to allocated business areas/project activity
  • Lead and direct legal workflows for allocated business areas
  • Assist General Counsel in forecasting, budgeting and planning for Legal function in relation to allocated business areas
  • Attendance and representation of the VWFS UK companies, as directed, at relevant external forums and committees to obtain best working practices
  • Provide legal support to business areas through representation on allocated committees (and similar forums)
  • Provide advice on interpretation and impact of regulation affecting the VWFS UK companies, in areas allocated by General Counsel
  • Provide accurate and timely legal advice, where directed by General Counsel, to all VWFS companies in the UK, on their strategic development and transactional issues
  • Manage legal expenditure and UK legal suppliers, where allocated by General Counsel although no budget authorisation is involved.
  • Draft and review commercial contracts, and other documentation (from inception) and transact accordingly in a legally compliant manner in accordance with VWFS UK company policies and business requirements and keep appropriate records of the same
  • Pro-actively develop precedent documentation for allocated business areas
  • Work with the Compliance team as appropriate to ensure a consistent delivery of commercial legal services to the VWFS UK companies and ensuring appropriate understanding within Compliance of the impact of regulation to our business
  • Participate in and be the lead legal advisor on allocated key business and departmental projects
  • Update and advise the VWFS UK companies on new legislation and regulations
  • Liaise with the VWFS AG / VW Bank GmbH Legal function in Headquarters as required
  • Be the legal advisor on allocated multi-jurisdictional and multi-disciplinary strategic initiatives
  • External networking and lobbying to government and other agencies to influence positively new laws and regulations, where directed
  • Compliance with VWFS AG and associated guidelines including, as applicable to Legal, required reporting under existing policy and procedures
  • Support to and cooperation with colleagues in the Risk function in the management of risk practices within the VWFS UK companies
  • Support General Counsel in recruitment and development of Legal team, where required

    Are you an experienced solicitor (4 years+ PQE) with practical experience of drafting and reviewing commercial contracts? Are you motivated by working in an exciting industry, supporting their strategy and drive for change and applying your knowledge to influence key stakeholders?, You will have extensive knowledge and practical experience of commercial contracts working for an in-house legal department of a financial services company and/or in private practice
  • In depth industry knowledge of regulation concerning commercial contracts and issues impacting consumer finance institutions. In particular, knowledge of CCA, SYSC module of FCA Handbook, FCA and ECB guidelines on outsourcing
  • You have excellent legal drafting and communication skills
  • Able to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels
  • You can apply knowledge and strong negotiating skills to influence and support others and achieve effective commercial outcomes
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving problems with commercial solutions
  • You work in a collaborative way in large scale and other projects and, multi-departmental activities
  • Strong influencing and persuasive skills with an ability to present sound and well-reasoned arguments
  • You can manage a high volume workload and prioritise accordingly

    Salary range is £63,759 - £83,923, Company Car scheme with a car up to the value of £56,900, fuel Card, healthcare after 6 months, 27 days holiday plus bank holidays and much more! It's just a 35 hour week with one day minimum in the office every week in Milton Keynes, with flexibility to do more than this as required - particularly when you first join and you're getting to know your colleagues and how our business operates
