About the role: We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Commercial Licenses & Data Partnerships Manager to drive commercial licensing initiatives and expand strategic partnerships within the shipping commodities space. You will play a pivotal role in identifying new business opportunities, fostering relationships with key stakeholders, and negotiating commercial agreements that leverage our APIs and AI-driven solutions. What you will do in this role:

  • Commercial Licensing: Build and maintain strategic partnerships, licensing data deals, generating revenue through commercial licenses .

  • Data sourcing: Scout, negotiate and agree partnerships with entities that have relevant data in the space of shipping and commodities

  • Product & Commercial Strategy: Develop and execute a commercial strategy to promote Signal's APIs and associated data services to third party companies that are building shipping / commodities solutions for third parties. Influence the product development process to accelerate business development in the future.

  • Market Research: Stay informed on industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activities, using this knowledge to adjust business strategies and maintain a competitive edge.

  • Sales Enablement: Collaborate with the sales team to structure, negotiate, and close commercial deals that maximize value for Signal Ocean and our partners.

  • Contract Negotiations: Lead negotiations for licensing agreements, ensuring favorable terms while protecting Signal Ocean's IP and long-term business interests.

  • Stakeholder Management: Cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with business goals and project timelines.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Marketing, Legal, and Engineering teams to deliver effective solutions that meet client needs and support business growth.

    What you bring to the team:

  • Network in and understanding of the maritime and commodities industries and the technology offerings that are serving it

  • Direct experience in chartering from any market perspective, e.g. broker, charterer, ship owner, analyst, etc is a strong asset

  • More than 5 years of experience in business development, partnerships, or commercial licensing, ideally within the shipping industries.

  • Proven track record of closing high-value commercial agreements and partnerships.

  • Deep understanding of data is essential for the role. Excel, SQL skills are highly desirable.

  • Strong knowledge of data analytics, AI/ML technologies and SaaS products is highly desirable.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Willingness to travel as needed.
