Full Job Description

The Internal Communications team is responsible for creating informative and inspiring colleague communications across a range of written and digital channels.

As part of the wider Communications team (covering Press, Corporate Comms, Social and Events), we work closely with internal departments, including the Leadership team and CEO to make sure colleagues are aware of what is happening at Which? and understand our role in making life simpler, fairer and safer for all UK consumers.

About the role

Working within a close-knit Internal Communications team, you'll play an important role in assisting how we communicate with our colleagues.

As the Communications Assistant Apprentice, working towards a PR & Communications Assistant Apprenticeship Level 4 qualification, you will support the delivery of our internal communications strategy, working closely with the team to inform our employees of key developments within the business, and assist with delivering innovative and creative communications plans that contribute to employees' feeling informed and engaged with Which?'s purpose, mission and values.

About the apprenticeship

The apprenticeship trains apprentices to be proactive, communicative, enthusiastic, punctual, committed and creative. It covers the essentials of PR and communications, internal and external media, digital media and written communications. The training element of the course will take 12 months, with 4 months for end point assessment. Apprentices are given one day a week to study for the qualification.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the Internal Communications mailbox, responding to queries and escalating any questions to the wider Internal Comms team where relevant.

  • Supporting the delivery of internal events, working closely with the Senior Internal Comms officer and Events team lead to plan content, encourage staff attendance and gather post-event evaluation.

  • Managing some of our internal channels; working closely with the Senior Internal Comms officer to source, update content and evaluate these channels; recommending improvements.

  • Working closely with the team to understand the requirements from different functions and support delivery of communications activity where required.

  • Providing support for any other activities needed within the team, as directed by the Senior Internal Communications Manager.

  • Work closely with the Senior Internal Communications Manager to develop evaluation methods for their areas of work and support overall IC reporting.

    All candidates need to provide proof of at least a '4' in GCSE maths and English as part of the government guidelines.Please note you will not be accepted onto the scheme without this., Are you passionate about writing and finding innovative ways to tell colleagues stories? Someone who is organised and keen to develop your skills within internal communications?


  • If so, then we'd love to hear from you. In addition you will have:
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and able to make complex information easily understandable for colleagues

  • Good planning skills, and able to work at pace and on more than one priority at once

  • Working knowledge of Google suite (Gmail, slides, sheets) or/and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)

  • Able to build good relationships with people from different teams

  • Creative in your thinking and innovative in how you solve problems

  • Learning mindset, open to feedback and learning on the job


  • Experience with creating and editing content for websites, intranets, blogs or other web based media is also desirable.

    This role offers a competitive salary, hybrid working ( London, 1 day a week in office), 28 days holiday a year plus Bank Holidays and a fantastic pension scheme.
