Full Job Description

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic communications professional to join us in the Cabinet Office. This is a permanent role based within the Government People Group (GPG) which exists to work with departments, professions and functions to build a skilled, modern and effective Civil Service. You'll be working within a small multi-disciplinary team of strategists, programme and project specialists, as well as communications and correspondence professionals, who support a variety of programmes and teams delivering and improving recruitment services across government. The work that we support aims to help the Civil Service recruit with increased efficiency and effectiveness, providing a better experience for candidates and hiring managers and better outcomes for the Civil Service in reducing the time and cost to recruit. Key to the role of Communications and Content Manager is the ability to build awareness, understanding and support for the future direction of recruitment services, both internally and across government, through regular and consistent communications and engagement. No prior experience in recruitment is required. If you have great communication skills, are proactive, organised and can see the bigger picture then we are interested in hearing from you! The role does not include line management responsibilities at present. However, there may be line management responsibilities in the future as the team continues to expand and evolve. This role is within the Government Recruitment Service (GRS), a unit within GPG in the Cabinet Office. GRS delivers award-winning recruitment services and functions for departments across the Civil Service, supporting and enabling the recruitment of civil servants. GRS provides operational delivery as well as specialist expertise and looks for new, innovative solutions to improve the recruitment process and experience. Technology, value for money, customer experience and the needs of a changing Civil Service are the pillars on which GRS continues to build and create. Role responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the Strategic Communications Lead in the development and delivery of the communications strategy and associated communications plans
  • Writing engaging and impactful content for a variety of channels, including newsletters, blogs, websites and social media
  • Undertaking activity to coordinate and bring together recruitment colleagues from across government
  • Supporting senior leaders with timely content on projects, successes and change and advising on the best channels to use
  • Liaising with a variety of stakeholders to raise awareness of the breadth of developments taking place within Civil Service recruitment.
  • We're looking for someone who can:
  • Write compelling content for external, internal and digital channels
  • Bring together engaging and relevant content for our audiences from across the range of activity happening within recruitment
  • Brief and support senior leaders in dealing with sensitive or contentious topics
  • Support the response to media enquiries, where required
  • Organise and coordinate regular communication forums and develop inputs for events, such as Civil Service Live
  • Communicate technical information in a simple and engaging way, with the political nous to horizon scan and anticipate handling issues
  • Build and sustain productive relationships, which is key to delivering effective communications and building trusted relationships with stakeholders
