Communications Lead

We have an exciting opportunity for a Communications Lead to work as part of a management team for the department and develop and manage communications strategies that support the work of the department and the operations of the building. The Department of Biochemistry is dedicated to understanding biological processes at the molecular level. We research how these processes drive cellular and organismal organisation and behaviour. We work across disciplinary boundaries in an environment that actively facilitates collaborative science and each year we have approximately 450 students in the department, on a mix of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. About the role In this new role for the department, you will develop and professionally deliver a communications strategy that aligns with the ethos of the department. This will include both internal and external communications, strengthen our information-sharing approaches and raise awareness of the Department's strategic aims and achievements. The work will include planning, writing and editing for a broad range of audiences on diverse media such as web, newsletters, social media, reports etc. Key initial activities will be the development and management of a new departmental intranet and working with the departmental webmaster on the implementation of a new content management system. The Communications Lead will help to position the Department as a world-leading hub of education and research in Biochemistry, promote public understanding of science and keep our staff informed as the Department develops.

You will have extensive communications experience in digital, print and social media as well as excellent writing skills and attention to detail. You will enjoy working as part of a team, be able to take the initiative, have strong interpersonal, organisational and planning abilities and have an interest in continuous improvement. If you have experience of working in higher education that would be good too.
