Full Job Description

The community brunch depends on committed volunteers who are passionate about showing hospitality and hope to rough sleepers from our local community. Supporting alongside other volunteers you will help prepare the venue, welcome guests into brunch and encourage guests to participate in making brunch a great place to be. You will be part of the team who serves a cooked breakfast to the guests and you are welcome to also share a meal alongside them.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Build strong relationships with guests and other volunteers.

  • Follow Community Brunch procedures for the effective running of the shift.

  • Co-operate with colleagues and offer help and support.

  • Share a meal with and have conversations with guests, encouraging them to get involved in activities as appropriate.

  • Share good news stories and feedback ideas about how to make Brunch a great place to be.

  • Communicate availability with the volunteer coordinator, including lateness and absences.

  • As directed by the shift coordinator, fulfil tasks such as;

  • Assist with the admissions process.

  • Welcome and register guests.

  • Prepare the eating area.

  • Kitchen assistant; preparing food, washing up, etc.

  • Share a meal with and have conversations with guests.

  • Encourage activities as appropriate.

    Volunteering takes place on Saturdays from 9am - 12:15pm at the Salvation Army Church in Ilford, volunteers support weekly, fortnightly or monthly, we can be flexible though we ask for a minimum once a month commitment from volunteers please.

  • Age requirement 18+ (16+ if accompanied by an adult).

  • Ability to work as part of a team.

  • Ability to follow guidelines and direction from the team leader.

  • Ability to work under pressure and being calm when responding to challenging behaviour.

  • Willingness to work within the Christian ethos of The Salvation Army but respectful of people of all faiths, cultures and backgrounds.

  • Basic reference after three months regular volunteering.

  • Able to effectively communicate with the Volunteer Coordinator regarding your availability.
