Full Job Description
The post holder will work with the Community and Specialist Dental Service Team delivering dental care and advice to adults with special care needs across a variety of clinical settings, including clinic and domiciliary settings. We serve patients from various community groups, including those with additional needs such as complex medical needs, those with learning difficulties, complex social history and the homeless population. Services to be provided include preventive care and advice, dental treatment, care under sedation. The post holder will undertake routine dental care to patients referred to, or accessing, the Community Dental Service. The post holder may also care for patients identified as requiring urgent care by multi-disciplinary teams. Clinical Duties
- Undertake thorough examination, diagnosis and assessment of patients.
- Carry out treatment planning and care management for a range of patients.
- To plan, develop, implement and evaluate appropriate interventions to prevent disease and promote health for individual patients.
- To identify commonly occurring medical emergencies and lead the dental team in the appropriate first line management of the emergency, using appropriate techniques, equipment and drugs.
- To use appropriate local anaesthetic and patient management approaches to control pain and anxiety during dental treatment.
- To use sedation where required.
- Carry out routine exodontias and/or simple surgical exodontias.
- Undertake appropriate assessment of patients to determine the need for specialist advice.
- Undertake appropriate investigations during patient examination to determine the need for specialist advice in the management of the developing dentition.
