Full Job Description

Weare a high performing organisation with a track record of success. This post offersan exciting opportunity for a health care assistant to join the Specialist CoronaryHeart Disease & Heart Failure Team based at the Greenhouse in AnnfieldPlain.

The post covers core hours of 09 : 00-17 : 00 Monday-Friday with currentlyno weekend working although that may change in the future.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be caring for patients withcardiac conditions such as coronary heart disease (CHD) and heart failure (HF).

They will be expected to support theHeart Failure Specialist Nurses team in providing care for these patients byrecording observations such as heart rate, BP and pulse oximetry andphlebotomy.

They may be directly involved in delivering cardiac rehabilitation,to both CHD and HF patients, alongside the exercise facilitators andcardiovascular nurses., The jobs entails offering care, support and monitoring topatients with cardiovascular disease and heart failure

It involves recording observations, ECGs and taking bloodspecimens.

It involves education and support around lifestyle issuesand risk reduction

The job entails independent travel around the Derwentsidearea with possible need to support other teams across the CDDFT footprint.

  • Experience

    Essential

    Experience of working within a healthcare environment.

    Desirable
  • Experience of working with cardiac patients.

  • Experience of working in a community setting.


  • Qualifications

    Essential
  • Care certificate or willingness to complete in the first six months of employment.

  • NVQ3 or relevant equivalent experience


  • Desirable

    Short courses relevant to care.

    Special Skills & Knowledge

    Essential
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Good organisational and problem solving skills.

  • Competent in performing and recording clinical observations and understand their significance : BP, heart rate and rhythm, pulse, oximetry, and, respiratory rate.

  • Ability to observe and record physical and social changes of a patient and report immediately.

  • Phlebotomy or willing to work towards.

  • Ability to work independently and act accordingly in an emergency situation.

  • Able to prioritise work on a daily basis to meet service demands.

  • Confident in the use of email and basic IT skills


  • Desirable
  • Basic understanding of cardiac anatomy, function and conditions.

  • Service standard ECG (electrocardiogram) performance.

  • Knowledge of benefits of cardiac rehabilitation.

  • Knowledge of self-management.

  • Phlebotomy.
