Full Job Description

The Community Safety Services Team is located within Communities Department. They are responsible for providing a multi-agency approach to reduce crime, disorder and anti-social behavior across Bexley and coordinating the Community Safety Strategy and delivery plan.
Community Safety brings together the relevant statutory Partners of the borough who have a responsibility for this work which includes London Borough of Bexley, Metropolitan Police, National Probation Service, London Fire Brigade and Health along with voluntary organisations.
The Community Safety Services team take the lead in several key community safety functions. These currently include, monitoring and reducing Anti-Social behaviour, ensuring plans are in place in relation to the Prevent Agenda (Counter Terrorism and radicalisation) along with Integrated Offender Management, Violence Against Women and Girls, Modern Slavery and Serious Violence including all forms of exploitation and supporting high risk vulnerable victims.
This role will include:

  • the operational delivery of Bexley Community Safety Partnership's response to tackle violence focusing on early intervention and prevention which will include direct 1:1 work with young people.

  • deliver training to young people and parents to raise awareness of the dangers and to assist parents and professionals in identifying early indicators.

  • promote good relationships between the Council, partner agencies, local residents, business communities and schools.

  • lead the co-ordination, delivery and implementation of early intervention and prevention for early years involvement in violence.


  • This is an exciting opportunity to join the busy community safety team. You will need to have experience of working in a multi agency setting and identifying, supporting and engaging community groups. The postholder would need to be able to work as part of a team as well as using own initiative and have experience in supporting young people., This is an ideal role for someone that wants to make a difference to residents lives and assist in tackling violence in key locations. In working collaboratively with partner agencies, the role will make a difference in keeping people safe. The post will sit within Community Safety Services and will be managed by the Violence and Community Risk Co Ordinator. The post will lead on the Early intervention and Prevention of young people becoming involved in serious violence.

    You will have at least two years' varied experience (paid or voluntary) of working with young people in the community or in an educational setting or working directly with vulnerable young people. As well as knowledge and understanding of safeguarding processes and procedures.

    Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
    This post is considered by the authority to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers. The council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the JD/Person Specification. These will be applied during the recruitment/selection and probationary stages.
