Full Job Description

The role of the Maternity Support Worker (MSW) in the Community is to support the community midwifery team with the delivery of high quality care to all women in the antenatal period and to all mothers and their babies in the postnatal period.

This will involve providing direct care to women and their babies. The role also focuses on providing education around good parenting models and enabling women and their partners to care for their babies independently and effectively.

The community MSW will be required to work alone in the women's home and other community settings supported by the Trust's Lone Worker Policy. The MSW will work under the direction of a qualified midwife who will remain accountable for the care provided. The MSW will be responsible for her actions and omissions. This will be achieved by the performance of specific care tasks, carried out after successfully completing a programme of formal training and assessment. In addition, the role will encompass clerical duties including basic use of the computer.

The community maternity support worker may be required to work at weekends as required by the community midwifery service.

You will contribute to the success of the multidisciplinary team in delivering an excellent, professional and compassionate maternity service to women, babies and their families.
