Full Job Description

The Specialist Perinatal Service is a passionate, dynamic, and committed team looking to recruit a Community Perinatal Nurse. Previous experience in perinatal mental health is not required, as we pride ourselves on providing extensive training and development opportunities. We are dedicated to high-quality, evidence-based practice. This post will support and prepare you for the transition from a Band 6 role to a Band 7 specialist role (not necessarily within our service), following the Competency Framework for Perinatal Mental Health Professionals.
The successful candidate will receive a comprehensive induction, with ample support and time to settle into the role. Our team manages small caseloads of women or birthing persons who are pregnant or in the post-natal period, supporting them and their families during this critical time.
The Community Perinatal Nurse role is suitable for Registered Nurses who have completed their preceptorship and are registered as approved NMC mentors. The post holder will deliver, high-quality, safe nursing care, ensuring consistently high standards of practice and clinical excellence in compliance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of professional conduct., The post-holder will be working with pregnant service-users in the antenatal and post-natal period who present with complexity and significant levels of risk, working with the wider systems, Mother and Baby Units, Maternity Services, joint Liaison with midwives and consultant obstetricians, Universal services, secondary services including family and carers, and working with patients who frequently present to crisis services. It would also suit someone who is passionate about working within a Multi-disciplinary role, Perinatal Consultant Psychiatrist, experienced psychotherapist, perinatal community mental health practitioners, occupational therapist, nursery nurses and excellent team administration.

As a Trust, we are happy to talk flexible working., The Perinatal Community Mental Health Service is a specialist secondary care multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatry, psychological therapies, occupational therapy, specialist nursing and nursery nursing, social work, and peer support. The service operates across three sub-teams (Wandsworth, Kingston & Richmond, Sutton & Merton), which come together weekly for meetings and case discussions. We also meet regularly as a whole service for reflective practice, complex case discussions, and business meetings to ensure smooth operations and collaborative service development. Our largest, 19-ward site is in Springfield Village, created following our £150m investment into two new world class mental health facilities. A 32-acre public park, shops and cafes are coming soon.
