Full Job Description

We are looking for a Community Phlebotomist to join our community phlebotomy team, working between the hours of 8.00 am and 4pm. This service is provided Monday to Friday and you will work alongside a team of experienced phlebotomists taking blood from patients in their own homes, living in residential care homes or other community services. There is an expectation to work alone whilst undertaking home visits and you may be required to cover clinics.

The individual will be responsible for ensuring that blood specimens are taken in a manner that does not cause undue anxiety to the patient and of good quality for the laboratory. It will also involve using the Coaguchek machine to monitor patients INR levels for the anti-coagulation clinic.

The individual will also be expected to cover in community dermatology clinics.

To fulfil the needs of service delivery to patients/service users and in line with our current team of clinicians, the post holder will work as part of a flexible team over 5 days per week. Various hours and working patterns available.

A clean driving license and access to a vehicle is essential for this role.

Whilst we would prefer someone who already is competent in venepuncture and the use of an Coagucheck machine, we will be able to offer full training if needs be.

You will need to be IT literate as there is an expectation to be competent in the use of an electronic patient record system following full training to maintain and ensure accurate record keeping.

You will require excellent communication skills, have a kind and caring nature and be able to show empathy to the patient and their family in times when they may be feeling anxious or distressed.
