Full Job Description
We are looking for a Community Phlebotomist to join our community phlebotomy team, working between the hours of 8.00 am and 4pm. This service is provided Monday to Friday and you will work alongside a team of experienced phlebotomists taking blood from patients in their own homes, living in residential care homes or other community services. There is an expectation to work alone whilst undertaking home visits and you may be required to cover clinics.
The individual will be responsible for ensuring that blood specimens are taken in a manner that does not cause undue anxiety to the patient and of good quality for the laboratory. It will also involve using the Coaguchek machine to monitor patients INR levels for the anti-coagulation clinic.
The individual will also be expected to cover in community dermatology clinics.
To fulfil the needs of service delivery to patients/service users and in line with our current team of clinicians, the post holder will work as part of a flexible team over 5 days per week. Various hours and working patterns available.

+ Phlebotomists will be expected to provide a helpful and professional service to patients and healthcare staff within the Trust and Primary care professionals, presenting a positive image of themselves.
+ Check patient demographics as per Trust Policy, prior to procedure, ensuring request
forms are completed accurately.
+ Explain procedure and put patient at easy, thus gaining implied consent.
+ Perform venepuncture using protocols as stated in the phlebotomy manual
+ Ensure blood samples are accurately labelled with patient identifiable demographics as per Trust Policy.
+ Ensure laboratories are provided with timely, high quality blood specimens taken in tubes that are appropriate for the tests requested.
+ Ensure patient had recovered sufficiently before leaving clinic or phlebotomist leaving the patients home.
+ General housekeeping duties within the department and notify any damage to equipment.
+ Ensure phlebotomy manager is aware of equipment needs
+ To liaise with line manager of any training needs.
+ Cover community dermatology clinics
+ support in other teams where needed

Candidates are responsible for covering the cost of their own DBS check if required: £18 for a Standard DBS check, recoverable from the first pay, or £38 for an Enhanced DBS check, divided and recoverable over the initial two pay periods. Payment for DBS checks for bank posts must be settled prior to commencement. Apprentices are exempt from DBS payment.
