Full Job Description

To provide basic nursing care support to the nursing team at the Luton Treatment Centre. Provide phlebotomy clinics at the Luton Treatment Centre and other bases within our portfolio as required and also assisting the Community Phlebotomists with domiciliary visits where necessary.At times where other services are facing staffing issues you may be required to assist within your skill set.

To provide basic nursing care support to the nursing team

Provide phlebotomy clinics at the Luton Treatment Centre and other bases within our portfolio as required.

Assist the Community Phlebotomist Service with domiciliary visits where necessary

When undertaking home visits on scheduled days to plan visits accordingly.

Assess the client's registration forms and initiate investigations (to include blood pressure, weight, height, BMI, urinalysis, screening blood tests, blood glucose tests).

To set up clinical areas prior to clinic and adhere to universal precautions

To chaperone and assist clients attending for procedures

Act as an ambassador for the Luton Treatment Centre at all times, welcoming visitors, patients, partners and other multidisciplinary users of the centre.

To give general advice to patients regarding services, referring them to staff/agencies as required

Check all equipment prior to clinic and report any defects to appropriate personnel.

To take appropriate emergency action as required and to immediately inform the nurse in charge or manager.

To be prepared to organise/take part in health promotion events

To participate in staff meetings and take minutes in the absence of the administrative staff

To assist in the collection of information for audit purposes

To rotate stock according to expiry dates

To put supplies, pharmacy, logistics and stores away

Assist in taking requests from patients on the phone booking line for clinic phlebotomy.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. To provide basic nursing care support to the nursing team
2. Provide phlebotomy clinics at the Luton Treatment Centre and other bases within our portfolio as required.
3. Assist the Community Phlebotomist Service with domiciliary visits where necessary
4. When undertaking home visits on scheduled days to plan visits accordingly.
5. Assess the client's registration forms and initiate investigations (to include blood pressure, weight, height, BMI, urinalysis, screening blood tests, blood glucose tests).
6. To provide basic dressings as directed by nursing team
7. To set up clinical areas prior to clinic and adhere to universal precautions
8. To chaperone and assist clients attending for procedures (on and off examination couch, escorting within the building and out to their car)
9. Act as an ambassador for the Luton Treatment Centre at all times, welcoming visitors, patients, partners and other multidisciplinary users of the centre.
10. To give general advice to patients regarding services, referring them to staff/agencies as required
11. Check all equipment prior to clinic and report any defects to appropriate personnel.
12. To take appropriate emergency action as required and to immediately inform the nurse in charge or manager.
13. To be prepared to organise/take part in health promotion events
14. To participate in staff meetings and take minutes in the absence of the administrative staff
15. To assist in the collection of information for audit purposes
16. To rotate stock according to expiry dates
17. To put supplies, pharmacy, logistics and stores away
18. To ensure bins are emptied at the end of each clinic
19. Assist in taking requests from patients on the phone booking line for clinic phlebotomy.

Communication

1. Greet patients attending clinics at LTC and signpost them accordingly
2. To record accurate, concise information on patient care within the patient notes
3. To maintain confidentiality of patients at all times
4. To communicate patient information to medical/nursing staff as appropriate to patient care
5. Attend and contribute to service meetings
6. To ensure accurate labelling of blood bottles and safe secure transfer to the laboratory
7. To assist in making appointments for patients who have language, speech or hearing difficulties
8. Receive, screen and transfer telephone calls as appropriate, acting on own initiative ensuring that accurate detailed messages are taken and recorded.
9. Keep up to date with reading and replying to work email communications
10. Communicate with Phlebotomists, HCA's Specialist Nurses, GPs, Nurses, Patients, local hospitals and other health professionals within the multidisciplinary team
11. To be the patients advocate within the clinical setting
12. To be supportive and communicative with colleagues and clients

Budgetary Responsibility

1. To monitor stock in partnership with nursing team and co-ordinate ordering of pharmacy stores, supplies, logistics and equipment as required

Human Resources

1. Participate in the induction of students and Health Care staff
2. Development of staff
3. Maintaining own professional development and requirement to take part in appraisal and KSF process

Research & Development Activity

1. Required to undertake R&D activity eg Hand washing and essential steps on a regular basis
2. Participate in obtaining patient engagement feedback on a continual basis. Audits as and when required

Clinical and Practice Governance

1. Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to any patient/family/staff/records and information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
2. Any data that is taken/shared as part of a phone call or transported, faxed or transferred electronically must be undertaken with regard to the Trust Information Governance and Information Security policies.
3. The post holder must adhere to the Trust risk assessment and risk management processes
4. The post holder must adhere to infection control policies and procedures
5. Undertake mandatory training and any other training relevant to the role as required by Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust.
6. The post holder must participate in clinical and other audits as required
7. Provide patients and their families /carers with information on standards they should expect from the team
8. Participate in clinical supervision on a regular basis
9. The post holder is required to participate in relevant emergency preparedness process for their team.

1. Work is managed rather than supervised
2. The post holder is required to use own initiative to problem solve deciding when to refer to Medical / Nursing staff
