Full Job Description

You will be part of the SLT senior leadership team and support delivery of a high-quality speech and language therapy service to our West Suffolk community as well as supporting colleagues within the team. You will also support speech and language therapy colleagues as well as students and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

To fulfil the role of Clinical Specialist SALT, you will have specialist skills in the management of dysphagia and communication disorders in a community setting and will be based at the Disability Resource Centre in Bury St Edmunds. Competency in videofluoroscopy and/or FEES is also required (support and additional training could be available if needed). You will also display excellent communication, training and organisational skills with demonstrable leadership skills.
Flexibility exists within the service to offer the successful candidate the opportunity to use their specialist clinical skills across a broad range of specialties such as progressive neurological conditions, dysfluency, and aphasia.
Line management of junior colleagues and team leadership are central to this role. A strong contribution to service development, audit and training will be expected. Senior colleagues will support your learning and development.
Applicants must have current HCPC and RCSLT registration and be able to show evidence of CPD., You will provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy in the community and have extensive experience of working within a community setting. There will be opportunities to develop your own clinical specialism within a broad range of available specialties.
Proven competence in the objective measurement of swallowing is a key aspect of the role - we have a well-established community videofluoroscopy service and aspire to develop a community FEES service in the future. You will ideally be practising as a Level C specialist dysphagia practitioner and have a proven track record of supporting others in developing dysphagia competencies.
Demonstrable skills and competence in the management of complex communication disorders is also required both in the delivery and delegation of both 1:1 and group therapy.
