Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitable, experienced Psychological Therapist to join the Veterans NHS Wales Service (VNHSW) in AB UHB. VNHSW is a specialist primary care service offering an outpatient psychological therapy service with signposting and/or referral to other NHS services, Veterans Welfare Agencies and Veteran Charities for additional support and intervention. The client group is ex-military personnel with mental health and social difficulties related to their military service. The post holder will be part of the VNHSW Team and will work with local and national colleagues. They must be experienced, qualified and registered with a relevant professional body, for example, Nurse/Occupational Therapist/Social Worker/Psychologist OR BABCP accredited and /or EMDR accredited. Candidates must already hold a post-graduate qualification in NICE-approved evidenced-based psychological therapy, e.g. Diploma level and above in CBT, and have been practising for several years in this role. We would consider long term secondment and are happy to liaise with other service managers should this be possible, Offering veterans with military-related mental health difficulties evidence based psychological treatment in a given therapeutic modality through:

  • Providing highly specialist assessment of psychological distress and psychological needs.
  • Formulating difficulties collaboratively with the patient and use this as a basis for a planned intervention.
  • With consent, to share formulations with significant others including family, carers and other professionals where indicated.
  • To provide and be supervised in high intensity and highly specialist psychological interventions.
  • To support the supervision of colleagues including more junior members of the team or those aspiring to be in the profession in the health board.

    The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
