Full Job Description
Are you ready to play a crucial role in keeping the UK's railways running smoothly? Join Network Rail as a Compensation Assistant and become a key player in ensuring that train operating companies (TOCs) are fairly compensated when engineering works impact their services., Our Shared Services team deliver specialist processes that have a direct impact on the performance of Network Rail, our customers and suppliers. These services include payroll, accounts, finance, controls and compliance, reporting, recruitment and helpdesk support.
What will you be doing?
As a Compensation Assistant, you will dive deep into train timetable data, meticulously reviewing and analysing variations caused by essential engineering works. Your keen eye will spot disruptions and line closures that impact TOCs, and youll be responsible for calculating the compensation owed to them in line with Schedule 4 of the Network Rail track access contract.
Working closely with internal teams, such as finance, youll discuss compensation allocations, provide clear explanations, and resolve any queries that arise. Your role will be central to maintaining accurate records, collating periodic statements, and ensuring compliance with our contractual agreements. You'll keep detailed audit trails to ensure transparency and accuracy in every transaction.
About the role (External)
Main Responsibilities
- Calculate compensation owed to the TOCS in line with Schedule 4 of the Network Rail track access contract.
- Create statements and maintain audit trails / information.
- Complete calculations within the specified deadlines, working within periodic KPIs / SLAs
- Respond to queries via email in relation to compensation calculations, statements and timetables (variances)
- Analytical and numerical skills
- Confident communicator with excellent communication skills
- The ability to organise and prioritise your work
- Great attention to detail with the ability to focus on specific tasks
- Experience working towards strict deadlines
- Understanding of train timetable process (schedule 4).
- Experience using a variety of IT systems
- Good knowledge of relevant railway geography.
- Basic understanding of railway engineering activities.
- Basic understanding of Track Access Conditions.
- Basic understanding of relevant content of Network Code.
