Full Job Description

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.
We are looking for a team member with a qualification and experience in editing. You will be responsible for reviewing our complaint response letters before they are sent to our Chief Executive to review and sign. This important step ensures that our letters comply with our style guide, and are of a high quality. Sometimes, there will be a need to provide education and feedback to the team about letter writing and grammar, so you will need to feel comfortable doing this.
Although this is a part-time role, ideally, we need this service three days a week, ideally on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, so that our timescale to respond to patients and families is not unduly delayed. You could work three x five hour days, or, five x three hour days. The role is suitable for hybrid working, so after initial training, there would be an opportunity for some home working.
You will be part of a small team, with a Complaints Manager, three Complaint Coordinators and yourself. Finding a person with the right skill set and a friendly personality is very important to us.
As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to.
Specific to this role is the suitability for agile working which is a mixture of on-site and remote working . Please talk to us at the interview about the flexibility you need, and we will explore what's possible for the role and service. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.
Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.
Each day the team will send you complaint response letters to review. Your role will be to edit these letters so that they comply with our Trust's style guide, check for spelling, grammar, format, and jargon, and that all the questions have been answered in layman's terms. Ideally, this needs to be done on the day you receive the task.
You will need to be able to provide training sessions to new team members and help them write complaint response letters in accordance with our Trust's style guide. Sometimes additional training sessions will be required to teach specific areas of writing, for example, syntax.
You will be responsible for maintaining the Trust's Style Guide for writing and developing training material, and occasionally there may be related projects to become involved in.
