Full Job Description

The Complex Needs Assistant Headteacher at Briarwood School plays a critical role in ensuring that the educational, personal, and social needs of our pupils with very complex needs are met. This role is dedicated to optimising the educational and personal achievements of pupils through effective management of education staff, robust systems, and supportive networks. As a member of the School Senior Leadership Team, you will work closely with the leadership team to inspire, motivate, and lead, ensuring that the school's infrastructure, environment, and resources are managed efficiently for continuous improvement. You will have significant experience of working with young people with complex SEND needs. You will have a good understanding and up to date knowledge of outstanding practice and research. You will have responsibility for the delivery of a defined area of the School Development Plan.

As the Complex Needs Assistant Headteacher you will be expected to support the LEA and school's values, comply with all policies and carry out the professional duties of a teacher as outlined in the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document.

You will be responsible, as appropriate for the leadership, management and organisation of;

  • The leadership and management of the Nexus provision


  • Pupils with Complex Needs


  • Alternative Learning Provisions (used by Briarwood pupils)


  • Therapeutic Intervention for complex pupils


  • Designated teacher for looked after children


  • Transition for complex pupils


  • Multi-agency liaison


  • Reintegration and inclusion


  • To undertake the duties of the Executive Headteacher, Head of Inclusion and Head of Provision regarding safeguarding as delegated from time to time


  • To deputise as necessary for other members of the Senior Leadership Team.


  • To assist the Executive Headteacher in the strategic leadership of the school.


  • To contribute to the development of the School Development Plan and SEF.
