Full Job Description

As the Compliance Officer supporting the Lloyd's Syndicates and Bermuda you will drive the Business' understanding of regulatory risk and establishing control frameworks where necessary across business units that utilise Hiscox syndicate and Bermuda capacity. You will be expected to combine your ability to understand the operational and commercial complexities of the business with the need to drive through regulatory change. Working with stakeholders at all levels of seniority, you will be providing regulatory advice and challenge. This demanding and rewarding role requires a broad knowledge of insurance regulatory matters across Lloyd's and Bermuda businesses, including Sanctions and Financial Crime, Conduct Risk, Insurance Distribution Directive, International Licensing, Lloyd's requirements and Systems of Governance and proven problem solving skills. What you'll be doing:

  • Support and develop relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the business and playing a lead role in embedding a good compliance culture and awareness.
  • Providing oversight and developing the business' understanding of regulatory risk
  • Reviewing assessing how Group compliance standards and policies have been embedded within the relevant Business Units
  • Investigating sanctions referrals and providing advice to the business
  • Supporting the workflow triage process to ensure business queries are responded to appropriately.
  • Working with the broader Hiscox Compliance function to help develop meaningful compliance performance MI
  • Identifying commercially viable solutions to the application of regulatory requirements
  • Monitoring and communicating regulatory change and actively influencing the business to establish control frameworks
  • Providing regulatory SME support to projects and change initiatives
  • Leading on the co-ordination and business support for regulator information requests, reviews and regulatory returns
  • Preparing Executive and Board level presentations
  • Responding to the business' day to day regulatory queries
  • Supporting the wider compliance team (e.g. team initiatives, weekly sanctions screening, compliance training for the business)
  • Leading by example, driving the development of the team, its processes and approach
  • To succeed in this role, you will have a strong technical regulations background, with proven deliverables management skills and will be comfortable working in a complex and dynamic environment. You will be dealing with lots of different people, systems, processes and information so you'll have to be versatile, flexible, highly organised, personable and engaging. Your goal will be to build relationships with key stakeholders and it's essential you have the communication skills that enable you to articulate your position clearly and persuasively.,
  • In depth knowledge of and experience in insurance is essential, particularly in the London insurance market
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly "soft" influencing, persuasion and consultancy skills and an ability to encourage business leaders to positively respond to questions, requests and challenges
  • Sound judgement and the ability to solve problems and identify commercially viable solutions
  • Ability to gain respect with stakeholders at all levels by understanding their business
  • A broad knowledge of key PRA, FCA, Lloyd's (and BMA, GFSC desirable) insurance regulatory topics, and ease with complex and technical regulations
  • Experience in driving through regulatory change
  • Detailed knowledge of economic sanctions, including controls, investigation, assurance and monitoring
  • A keen eye for detail
  • Proven skills in workload management, including multi-tasking, monitoring progress and re-prioritising work where needed
  • The ability to actively manage work performed others such as the 1st line, ensuring appropriate oversight and delivery of work while avoiding micro-management
  • Skills in developing the knowledge and skills of others, including the use of coaching and teaching styles of communication as appropriate is desirable
  • The ability to manage own performance effectively including agreeing objectives and bring a positive team spirit, trust and engagement
  • Significant emotional intelligence and self-awareness, with the ability to resolve issues within a team in a judicious and empathetic manner
