Full Job Description

Do you have an eye for spotting risks and horizon scanning? Can you use your conservation background to act as an ambassador and align key activity to programme objectives?, As Conservation Project Manager you will bring together project management skills, specialist conservation and collections care expertise, problem solving, and team leadership skills to deliver collections projects at NCC. More information about NCC can be found below. Reporting to the Group Conservation Manager, you will work collaboratively and proactively with other Project Managers and departments to enable the Conservation team to deliver Masterplan and Collections Services projects. This includes ensuring that conservation and collection care elements are correctly scoped and resourced and that conservation budgets are managed accordingly. You will manage and matrix manage conservators across several projects. Using your conservation specialist knowledge of materials and practices, you will help your team plan works and review processes to ensure they are fit for purpose, making decisions to improve efficiencies and ways of working.

You will have solid experience of conservation project management with the ability to analyse, forward plan, coordinate and manage people. From this, you have the ability to find innovative conservation solutions to complex problems, and to define and report on key performance indicators, key dependencies and milestones and risk. With great people and negotiation skills, you can maintain a strong reputation for delivery whist effectively engaging with senior stakeholders, and acting as a successful, and trusted ambassador for your team.

The 545-acre Science and Innovation Park is the home of the Science Museum Group's National Collections Centre (NCC), our hub for collections management and access. The National Collections Centre is transforming how we care, manage, and make accessible over 400,000 objects and 1.5M items in our Library and Archive. A new collections management facility houses a vast range of objects in the collection from microscope slides to railway carriages, other objects are stored in repurposed aircraft hangars, sustainable hempcrete constructed buildings and other facilities dispersed across the park.
