Full Job Description

The successful candidate will manage their own workload, with support from the wider legal team. There will be scope to develop expertise in construction and engineering projects by working closely alongside relevant divisions of the business on a variety of schemes across the different sectors in which our businesses operate and by assisting the Group Construction and Engineering Solicitor on more complex construction-related matters as well as general commercial contracts. As such, we can offer good career progression to the right candidate.,

  • Drafting, negotiating professional team appointments and novation agreements and warranties
  • Drafting, negotiating statutory agreements and bonds including in relation to highway and drainage works.
  • Drafting subcontract documentation Drafting and negotiating (with support) schedule of amendments to pre-construction services agreements, enabling works contracts and building contracts.
  • Drafting (with support) reports on building contracts and commercial contracts
  • Reviewing and advising (with support) upon tender documents
  • Monitoring legislative changes and case law and advise colleagues in the legal team of those which are relevant to the business of the Group

    We are very excited to welcome a full time Construction and Engineering lawyer of 2 years + PQE to join our in-house legal team based at our Head Office at Bamber Bridge, Preston, which is ideally located very close to the motorway networks, off the M65 and M61.
  • This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified solicitor who ideally has a few years of prior experience of working in construction or engineering (whether in-house or in private practice), to work alongside other professionals in a very busy, mature, dynamic and supportive environment and to develop knowledge and gain first-hand experience of the industry in real-time whilst providing assistance to our construction and engineering teams, added to which is the ability to be involved in live projects from inception right through to completion.,
  • Basic understanding of the needs of the construction industry and standard forms of contracts, professional team appointments, novations and warranties
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills
  • Good level of commercial awareness with close attention to detail
  • Excellent IT skills including the use of company software packages
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Professional attitude with a very strong work ethic
  • Self-motivated to complete tasks on time and to a high standard
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Ability to accept feedback and a willingness to learn/develop own skills, knowledge & behaviours.
