As a part of Jacobs Construction Advisory, you will support the successful delivery of projects by providing constructability expertise, primarily during outline design and consent phases. You will provide expertise to help create the construction strategy, phasing, methodology and programme, taking account of and integrating emerging environmental and logistical constraints and construction best practice, specifically relating to airfield and airport programmes, and providing expertise to design teams on the buildability and best practices through the construction phase. The role will involve liaison between other Jacobs departments, disciplines, contractors and external agencies and clients. You will be required to provide technical input mainly during pre-construction, including:
- Airfield and Airport systems Phasing.
- Airfield Utility Networks and Systems Removals, Diversions and new Installation.
- Airfield Pavements and Runway Construction latest methodologies.
- Airfield Compliance works and specification requirements.
- Airport Construction, Logistics & Traffic management.
- Airfield Earthworks and mass haulage plans.
- Temporary works / Lifting and plant solutions specific to airfield constraints.
- CDM and Principal Designer, Principal Contractor obligations, or other local regulatory responsibilities. Responsibilities typically entail producing the constructability input for specific projects including drafting option assessments, assessing construction risks with proposed mitigations and provision of best practice advice. Key to the role is informing the design and enabling change in the permanent solution to create a more buildable, more reliable, safer solution. The post holder will therefore be able to work independently albeit under the supervision of a senior, take initiative on their own and have an eye for detail when reviewing proposed schemes. You will need a good level of health, safety and environmental experience as a key responsibility of the role is to identify risks in these areas, proactively lead projects in navigating these considerations, and advise on appropriate mitigation options. The Construction Manager is required to co-ordinate, co-operate and liaise with other Jacobs departments, contractors, clients and potentially external bodies primarily for the purposes of design development. As such, you will require confidence, good communication and management skills to ensure that the constructability input is conveyed appropriately and given due consideration. You will have experience in working within the delivery of capital projects and will come from a civil engineering or building construction background. The role suits someone looking to transition into professional services from a main contractor, preferably with NEC Supervisor and comprehensive airfield utilities protection procedures and airfield infrastructure and asset phasing.
- A demonstrable track record of on-site Airfield (runways, taxiways, aprons), Airport assets such as & Airfield systems experience directly delivering a broad range of multi-system construction or engineering projects on airfields.
- The ability to independently review design proposals and assess the likely impact and risks associated with constructing the works, under the supervision of a project/team leader, and work towards mitigating these where practical.
- Relevant health, safety and environment experience relating to the construction industry.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Ability to draft credible, deliverable Airfield construction sequences and schedules, taking into account Aviation client requirements International Aerodrome Standards, Critical area shut-downs, closures and possession availability, logistics, and environmental constraints.
- An appropriate degree or diploma is normally required. Possible exceptions may be considered where the supporting track record demonstrates the equivalent level of construction knowledge and experience.
- Membership and professional accreditation with a relevant professional institution, or evidence of working towards this is highly desirable
- Experience of a broader range of specialist construction, modifications and demolitions of airfield infrastructure, terminal assets, airfield support facilities, airfield logistics, highways, rail interfaces, PBB, BHS, AGL, etc.
