Full Job Description

We have three main hospitals providing acute services to around 330,000 local residents. The organisation also provides specialist tertiary care for cardiac and haematology services, delivers community health services to over 445,000 residents including those in North Lancashire and hosts the National Artificial Eye Service across England. Working patterns such as: part time working, self-rostering, compressed hours, annualised hours, term time, reverse term time and flexitime working can be explored., In addition to our Consultant vacancy we also looking for the right person to lead our services as the new Head of Acute Medicine. This role will be a 2 PA time commitment whilst also attracting a responsibility payment of £10K. The appointment of this role would be for a term of three years, subject to satisfactory annual reviews.
Our Emergency Village work is complete and we now have a modern Same Day Emergency Care department co-located to the Emergency Department, plus a large Acute Medical Unit and and Short Stay Unit situated above.
The Consultant team oversees and leads in the daily reviews of the medical take through these areas supporting and encouraging patient care being provided in the right place, first time ensuring national and local targets are recognised and achieved.
The service is staffed by a large team of Consultants, Registrars, junior doctors, ACP's and Physician Associates. The medical on call service is also coordinated through here that is staffed by a mixture of trainees and substantive colleagues. Many students also have their placements in the service making us a busy, fast-paced learning environment.

· Responsible for the timely review of all medical patients attending the services.
· Responsible to facilitate a rapid triage, assessment and discharge for the ambulatory patients and coordinate a clinic appointment if required.
· Daily ward rounds and identifying morning discharges ensuring the patient is safely discharged from the department.
· Administrative duties within the department.
· Provide high quality care to patients including clinical leadership and supervision of junior medical staff..
· To ensure adequate supervision of junior staff including break supervision and adherence to European Working Time Directive
· Undertake re-validation as per the General Medical Council and will be required to undergo multi-source feedback and participate in reflective practice.
· Adhere to all Trust policies and procedures.
· Attend Clinical Governance and take on leadership roles to support continuous learning and improvement.
· Liaise with clinicians and managers within and outside of the department to address issues arising that affecting the service.
· Participate in relevant audit and quality assurance processes.
· Management of the department to maintain efficient and timely patient flow with specific reference to both local and national standards.

Please note, you will be required to repay the cost on appointment. This will be collected via a salary deduction. You can choose whether to pay this over 1-3 months from your salary or as a one-off payment on commencement in post. The level of check required depends on the role that you have been offered. Currently the charges are - Basic DBS check £22.00, Standard DBS check £22.00 and Enhanced DBS check £42.00.
You are encouraged where possible, to register for the DBS update service. This is an annual registration fee of £13. By registering for the update service you will not have the additional cost of repeated disclosures.
Should you withdraw your application, you may be required to reimburse the cost of the DBS check.
DBS checks remain free of charge for volunteer positions.
