Consultant Anaesthetist with an Interest in Intensive Care

Consultant Anaesthetist for Anaesthesia with an interest in Intensive Care Medicine based at Darlington Memorial Hospital, County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. A fantastic opportunity to continue your career in anaesthesia and Intensive Care in a supportive and enthusiastic district general hospital., The main duties of the role are to provide consultant led anaesthetic care for patients, both in elective and emergency settings and also have sessions in Intensive Care Medicine.

On call commitment is 1:12 and is solely for Intensive Care. On Call for Theatres and Obstetrics is provided by a separate consultant anaesthetist although there is always good communication and teamwork between all resident and non-resident staff on call. Paediatric stabilisations are covered by both groups with the first responder responsibility being shared on alternative weekly rota. On calls at the weekend are usually 24 hrs with support from juniors in a 3 tier Rotas.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
