Click on this link to find out about our values https://www.uhbw.nhs.uk/p/about-us/our-trust-values, We seek to appoint a whole time (10 PA) Consultant in Adult Cardiac Anaesthesia & Critical Care to start in Spring 2025. This is due to a retirement in the team.
The cardiac anaesthesia group provide a service covering adult cardiac surgery, adult congenital heart surgery, cardiac intensive care and an expanding commitment to cardiology and ACHD, which includes complex PCI, electrophysiology and transcatheter valves. The cardiac anaesthetic group provide a trans-oesophageal echo service within cardiac theatres and intensive care.
The group run a ring fenced 10 bed cardiac intensive care unit within the trusts larger 55 bed critical care capacity. On weekdays the group cover 3 cardiac theatres at least one catheter lab and a preoperative assessment clinic as well as a 24/7 emergency cardiac surgery service.
The contract will be held with the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS FT.

The successful candidate will be expected to integrate into the existing team, to provide cardiac anaesthesia and cardiac critical care in the Bristol Heart Institute and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston, and to provide training to all rotating SpRs and Fellows.
The appointee is expected to maintain accreditation and CPD as required by the GMC and Royal College of Anaesthetists. This will be supported by funded study leave.
Prospective candidates should hold the FRCA or an equivalent qualification. They must be experienced in trans-oesophageal echocardiography and hold recognised accreditation. The successful candidate must be experienced in cardiac anaesthesia, anaesthesia for adult congenital heart disease surgery and anaesthesia for cardiac cath lab procedures.
The candidate should be experienced in the postoperative management of patients on cardiac intensive care., the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
