We are delighted to offer this opportunity to join the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Cardiology department. Applications are invited for a Consultant Cardiologist with full training and accreditation and special interest in Cardiac Imaging, in particular echocardiography, stress echocardiography and TOE.

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of cardiac services within the region, with a well-established reputation for clinical excellence, innovation and achievement. The Trust provides the range of secondary adult cardiac services across a large part of Hampshire, with hospitals situated in Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover that are covered by our service. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate clinical expertise in imaging including stress echocardiography and TOE. Expertise and experience in CT coronary angiography would be welcome. The successful candidate will undertake a number of imaging sessions per week and will be expected to participate in the general cardiology on call rota as Consultant of the Week, covering CCU and the Cardiology ward. They will also support the delivery of general cardiology services in the
department such as outpatient clinics.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting new position to strengthen our cardiac diagnostic team and bring new individual skills to our department within Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In addition, the post comprises general cardiology commitments and contribution to the cardiology on call rota.

It is our aim that this consultant appointment will develop and deliver a specialist heart valve clinic for Hampshire Hospitals patients, take a lead role in helping the service achieve British Society of Echocardiography departmental accreditation within 18 months, undertake specialist transoesophageal and stress echo imaging lists, offer an expert opinion on transthoracic echo findings and their management, develop a culture of learning within the echo team, improve pathways for those with suspected endocarditis and finally support the development of a local linked structural intervention service.

Our vision is to provide outstanding care for every patient. Patient care is at the heart of what we do at our three sites: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and Andover War Memorial Hospital. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 600,000 people across Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire.

Our cultural ambition is to have a culture that places people at the heart of all we do, where we all belong, and where learning, improvement and excellence thrive.

We provide specialist services to people across the UK and internationally. We are one of only two centres in the UK treating pseudomyxoma peritonei (a rare form of abdominal cancer) and we are leaders in the field of tertiary liver cancer and colorectal cancer.

The trust employs more than 9,000 staff and has a turnover of over £500 million a year. As a Foundation Trust, we are directly accountable to our members through the governors. The Council of Governors represent the interests of their constituencies and influence the future plans of the Foundation Trust.
