We are seeking a proactive, motivated, dynamic, and caring individual to join our clinical team at Northwest Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. This is a replacement post with a vision for expanding our ambitious cardiology department across multiple sites, working closely with the local Integrated Care Network to maintain a high standard of care. This is an excellent opportunity to join the Heart Failure service within our cardiology department. The successful candidate will play a key role in expanding services across multiple sites, working alongside our existing heart failure consultants, specialist nurses, and community team. The development of Ambulatory Heart Failure services is a key focus of this role. Additionally, the role includes specialist sessions in device implantation, supporting our newly commissioned complex pacing service.
The role also involves contributing to general cardiology services at both Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital, including weekend cardiology ward rounds and participation in a consultant of the week model., + Deliver high-quality, patient-cantered care.
+ Expand and deliver heart failure services.
+ Contribute to general cardiology services, including outpatient clinics and inpatient ward work.
+ Perform pacemaker implantation procedures.
+ Share responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service and participate in strategic planning.
+ Actively participate in MDT meetings and directorate clinical governance activities.
+ Engage in teaching, training, and continuous medical education.

Working for our organisation
Our cardiology department currently includes 13 whole-time equivalents, with 8 substantive consultants, 2 GP cardiologists, and 2 long-term locum consultants. This role will support the pacing service as we continue to develop a complex pacing service for the North Cambridgeshire and Peterborough integrated system.
The consultant team is supported by a highly experienced group of cardiac specialist nurses who cover ACS, Heart Failure, Arrhythmia, and cardiac rehabilitation, as well as a skilled Cardiac Physiology team.
Peterborough City Hospital, opened in 2010, features an integrated cardiology ward and department with 12 beds on CCU, 29 beds on the ward, a Cardiac Investigations department, and a Coronary Angiography suite. The Cardiac suite performs over 400 angiograms and 300 bradycardia implants annually, along with over 800 CTCAs in radiology. PCI and Cardiac surgery services are provided by Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, with tertiary links to St Barts and Leicester.
Outpatient clinics are held at both acute sites, as well as in Stamford, Doddington, and Spalding community hospitals. We also host visiting consultants who provide electrophysiology and GUCH clinics, with online referral triage and Advice & Guidance available for local GPs., The role also involves contributing to general cardiology services at both Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital, including weekend cardiology ward rounds and participation in a consultant of the week model. Travel between sites will be suitably reimbursed. We are open to consider alternative job content on a personal basis.
You will be joining the Consultant rota on a 1:7 weekend ward rounds as following consultant of the week model. Currently, there are no on call commitments; however, it is expected that the cardiology team moves towards providing 24/7 cover.
You will contribute to general cardiology services including outpatients' clinics and inpatient ward work as consultant of the week as well as reviewing outlying patients with cardiac conditions. You will share responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service ad participation on strategic planning.
You will be expected to attend the multidisciplinary team meetings and the clinical governance activity across the directorate.
Teaching and training junior members of staff are essential to your professional activity as well as participating in continuing medical education.
