Full Job Description

Applications are invited for a full time Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist with an intention meet the needs of the Neurophysiology Department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The successful applicant will have access to a comprehensive range of equipment to provide routine and specialist diagnostic studies.

The successful applicant will provide a full range of nerve conduction studies (NCS) and electromyography (EMG) services and be expected to be able to undertake this on all available equipment. They will be required to report on EEG of all modalities. They will also be required to report on physiologist-led nerve conduction clinics and any other neurophysiological investigations as required.

This post offers the opportunity to work closely with neurological, neurosurgical and orthopaedic consultants colleagues in providing a cross specialty comprehensive diagnostic service to in- and out-patients and also to primary care services.

There will be the expectation for the successful applicant to develop a subspecialist interest in advanced neuromuscular neurophysiology and the education and development of the role of clinical physiologists in performing more advanced NCS. The successful candidate would be encouraged to develop services, existing and new, complementary to the needs of the department. There may be the opportunity to develop other sub-specialist interests subject to the needs of the department., The department holds UKAS accreditation for IQIPS (Improving Quality in Physiological Service) and the successful candidate will be required to support delivery of this.
