Full Job Description

This post presents a unique and exciting leadership opportunity for a suitably qualified individual to drive a forward-thinking, expanding cancer service within the lower GI team at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre of excellence.

The post aligns with the opening of the new £162m Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in central Liverpool (CCC-L). CCC-L is located directly adjacent to the new Royal University Liverpool Hospital (part of Liverpool University Hospital Trusts) as well as the main University of Liverpool (UoL) campus for biomedical research, thereby providing an unprecedented opportunity to integrate cutting-edge research into clinical and diagnostic cancer services.

Main duties of the job

The lower GI oncology team are based in the brand new, state-of-the-art CCC-L building. Clinics operate at 4 sites across the region including Liverpool (Central), Aintree (North), Wirral (South) and St Helens & Knowsley/Warrington & Halton (East). The post holder will support clinics at Eastern sector with some consultations being held remotely.

The post will be subject to the Terms and Conditions of the 2003 Consultant Contract. It is expected that the commitment will amount to 10.1PAs (8.5 DCC, 1.5 core SPA and plus 0.1 on-call commitment). This will be reviewed following appointment and finalisation of the job plan. This job plan will be subject to regular review by the Clinical Director, in consultation with the post holder. The timing and nature of the above commitments may change depending on the needs of the service.

Good communication skills, the ability to work as a team member, and offer a high standard of clinical opinion are essential requirements. Participation in the Trust consultant appraisal system and Royal College of Radiologists CPD programme are expected.

Any candidate who is unable or does not wish to work full-time is eligible to be considered for the post.

The post will contribute to the overall leadership, development, and delivery of Lower GI service provision at both the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Liverpool and Eastern sites.
